The world

Spinny had two design systems. The new and the old.

Drift - the old one. Comprehensive, familiar, had served us well for years.

Speed - the new one. More refined, more polished. Built for where the product was going.

On paper, one replaces the other. Simple enough.

Except they were completely different.

Different names. Different logic. Different rules for something as basic as a button.

Speed shows up. And one instruction from the leadership: start migrating everything.

What I saw

So I started watching it happen. Same swap, every file, every designer, every single day. The exact same manual translation, over and over, like it was just... the cost of doing business.

Nobody questioned it. It had just become normal.

I couldn't unsee it.

The decision

Funny thing — I didn't know a single line of JavaScript.

But I already knew the actual answer. I'd been translating Drift into Speed in my head for weeks without even realizing that's what I was doing.

The only gap was syntax. I just didn't know how to say it in code yet.

So, midnight, Claude open, zero plan B — I just started.

The reality

Hundreds of components.
The same swap.
Over and over.
Across every designer, every file.
